About Me

Originally from Los Angeles, I have braved the fierce weather of Syracuse in pursuit of knowledge. My academic background is intensely interdisciplinary, which gels well with my overarching thoughts on society: we all have to work together, and echo chambers are dangerous. I have backgrounds in Business Economics, Classics (Greco-Roman History & Latin), and Interdisciplinary Humanities. On a normal day, I am a jack of all trades and a master of none. I enjoy this quote from Simeon Stylites:

If a man knows a lot of things badly, he will have a lot more fun than the timid soul who never strays beyond the confines of what he knows perfectly. A man who does a lot of things badly is well rounded, in contrast to the specialist who is sharp as a needle, and just as narrow.

However, I will eventually be a master of something: Library and Information Science. I am also pursuing a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Digital Libraries.

Academic Interests

  • Republican Era Rome - From its humble beginnings, to its bloody and dramatic hegemony; its beautiful language and its brilliant thinkers; its revolutionary form of government; no other society from history fascinates me quite as much as Rome. I wrote a thesis on Rome, detailing the Etruscan and Magna Graecian influences on the nascent civilization.
  • Data Management and Metadata Librarianship - Although we are lucky to live in a society with so much information being generated, the problem is we have too much of it, and not enough people keeping track of it, or planning its curation for use by all.
  • Copyright - The conflict between intellectual property rights and open access is one which will not die down soon. Finding the dividing lines and best practices is something I try to keep abreast of.

Personal Interests

  • Gaming - Board games, card games, computer games, console games... you name it. Although this is a personal interest, I also hope to pursue the subject of gaming in libraries in the future.
  • Sports - I mainly watch and play both basketball and football, but I also enjoy WRC, the World Rally Championship.
  • Computers - I mostly enjoy putting PCs together, but I am getting more into software as I go on.
